Review and Demo: Hare Magic Moroccan Color Changing Lipstick

Hey, guys!

I have a really… strange… product to share with you. A friend of mine shared a blog post about this lipstick and we both HAD to have it! I ordered it on ebay that day, and four days later it’s here:

The Hare Magic Moroccan Color Changing Lipstick

Color-changing lipsticks are not new technology. In fact, brands have been advertising “mood ring lipsticks” since the 1950s. That being said, there’s something special about this particular version, and that’s that it contains henna. You may know of henna as a skin dye used for intricate temporary tattoos that last for a few days, so that means that this lipstick is supposed to have a similar staining effect on the lips.

I wasn’t able to find too many articles or videos about this lipstick, so I unfortunately don’t have as much information about it as I’d like, but I do know it claims to adapt to each person’s individual body chemistry to give a unique color–but that’s not true for any lipstick. The ingredient that gives it that color-changing quality, Red 27, simply reacts to body temperature and pH levels; your natural lip color has more of an effect on it looking different than anything else. Here’s a cool article if you want to learn more. If you’re worried about synthetic colors like red 27, then you’ll want to research this product throughly or skip it altogether.

If you want to see a live demo of this lipstick, check out my video at the end of this post. Let me know in the comments below if you found that helpful. I think this kind of product is one you have to see in real time in order to really see what it does! Here are the before and after photos for the TL;DR version:

Cool, right? The color darkened a little bit in the few minutes after I put it on, and it did seem to stain my lips. Forty minutes after putting it on I noticed it still felt very moisturizing like a lip balm, but it didn’t transfer at all!

Before I put the lipstick on, though, I was curious to see if it would do anything to my skin. I swatched a little on my hand, and very slowly, it gave my hand a nice pink stain as well. I wonder if this would work as a staining blush, too… I’m going to see how easily (or not!) I can get it off my hand tonight before I start putting it on my face.

I should say a little something about the packaging too. It looks really cool but is made of cheap plastic, so it does feel a bit flimsy. It feels wobbly twisting the lipstick up, and the container is a bit loose. But, I only got this for $10 including shipping, so I’m not expecting it to be high-end. I just thought that was worth mentioning!

I used this seller to purchase this lipstick.

I hope you enjoyed this post and the video! Please let me know if you have any questions about this product, or if there’s something else out there you’d like me to review. Thanks so much for reading this post and checking out my blog!

      1. Ooooooo I have always wanted to do a collab 🙂 yes! Okay I need to get my butt in gear and film a video! I have just been so busy and they are really time consuming…also, I am really good at making up excuses 😉

          1. I was just frustrated cuz I would film and edit in HD then when I would upload then to YouTube they would be horrible quality. I decided it just wasn’t meant to be! Haha but I have always wanted to try again

          2. That’s strange. I feel like sometimes mine look bad on YouTube but I feel like that has more to do with streaming than the file itself. Maybe check your quality settings on the player and try full screen? That seems to work for me.
