What the @#$! is Business Casual?

Hi, guys!

When I was first offered my summer internship, I was told the dress is “business casual” in the office. It sounded alright, but when it came down to packing, I was drawing a blank. Are jeans OK? What about sleeveless tops? How long do my skirts have to be? Unfortunately, the answers depend on the company.

But now that I’ve finished my internship, I can confidently say I’ve gotten the hang of it (at least, no one’s told me I’ve been wrong). The most difficult part is figuring out how much you can express yourself and wear what you like to wear, while still looking appropriate.

Here are some tips for sneaking in some of your favorite items from your closet into your professional outfits.

Statement Jewelry

I love me a good statement necklace, so it was important that I try and find ways to incorporate them into my work outfits. Luckily, statement jewelry can dress up an outfit that lies more on the casual side of “business casual.”

Pops of Color

Going to work doesn’t mean putting on a bunch of neutrals every day, unless that’s how you prefer to dress. As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to appreciate strong neutral pieces in my closet, but once in a while I want something bright and cheery.
