Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Fireball: Review and Tutorial

Hi all,

It’s been too long. I was sick as I was moving, ran around all over the place to get furniture and set up the new apartment, and then got sick again. After two weeks of this second illness, I’m finally feeling like I’m in the clear. You can hear in the video that my voice is slightly too deep, as I filmed it last week when I was still coughing a lot… but I was desperate to get something out to you guys!

I went to Sephora on a whim recently and got a few samples of eyeliners and skincare to try out, and I decided to check out Urban Decay’s new summer products. When I saw that most of their new eyeshadows are duochrome/have some sort of shift to them, I just about fell onto the floor. I absolutely LOVE those kinds of eyeshadows. And, of course, I fell in love with Fireball. It seems to be the most popular one, because it seems to be running low or sold out everywhere I’ve been since. I even had to ask an associate to look in the drawers underneath the display to get mine!

Urban Decay describes Fireball as peach with a pink shift, and it’s categorized as a shimmer and luminous sheen, no glitter. I don’t have a lot of experience with single UD eyeshadows, just their palettes, and I have to say I think I like the quality even better from this single. It’s so smooth and has so much pigment. Below is a photo swatch, but I do a live swatch in the video below before the tutorial, so make sure to check that out.

I love this shade because it’s not obnoxious. The peach base makes it look not too far from a more natural shade, and the pink shift just adds a little something special. I went a little bolder in the tutorial and put a white base beneath the shadow, but with just a primer you can get a nice, sheer wash of color. I just LOVE this eyeshadow. It is one of those truly unique and special shades. I’m almost tempted to go buy the others… Maybe I should wait until I start my job, though?

I wanted to do a look with this gorgeous eyeshadow that would really show it off. And so, I decided to do a quick smokey eye for summer. This is the first tutorial I’ve done on my boyfriend’s (way better) camera, and WOW it was a little too honest. Looking back at the footage, I could see that my eyeliner was uneven and I had some trouble with the false lashes. I was trying a new liner and was worried about getting too much product on the applicator, and ended up with not enough. The lashes… well, I’m still pretty new at it and am getting practice! I hope you’ll bear with me 🙂

Alright, onto the video. If you read this post, you will probably want to skip to the tutorial.
