Trying on Bold Lipsticks from the Drugstore

Also, I love starting all my blog posts with all caps…

Lots of brands are coming out with bold, crazy lipsticks. Now it’s easy to get them from the drugstore, too!

I grabbed a few shades of the new Maybelline Loaded Bolds collection, and some new shades from the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick collection. I also had Stone Fox from their original shades too.

Here are the Maybelline shades I got…

Maybelline Loaded Bolds swatches

Gone Greige is a beautiful nude-but-not-boring shade. It’s a true matte and goes on really pigmented and smooth. It will definitely be my most-used of the bunch. I’ve been looking for a “greige” lipstick and this one is excellent (and accessible almost anywhere)!

Wickedly White is… not so great. It clings to any fine lines in your lips and doesn’t seem to set. I cut this out of the video, but I tried using it other under lipsticks to see if it would brighten up whatever I put on top, but–just, no. I didn’t try mixing it with another color, but that might work, if you can get past the other issues.

Chocoholic goes on so smooth and fully pigmented, but you barely feel it on your lips. I don’t know if the color suits me, but man, it’s a nice-looking and feeling lipstick.

Violet Vixen and Sapphire Siren are really well-done brights. The purple is bright and true-to-color on your lips. It doesn’t fall flat like some bright colors do. And Sapphire Siren is AMAZING. Both shades take a couple swipes to get full color, but it’s worth it!

And now for the NYX shades…

NYX Liquid Suede swatches

Left to right: NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Brooklyn Thorn, Stone Fox, and Jet Set

These are all amazing. Brooklyn Thorn is like a darker “griege,” but warm-toned. Stone Fox is a cool, almost blue, grey. And Jet Set is, of course, another blue. These all have great pigmentation. I haven’t worn any of these for a whole day, so I can’t speak to the longevity, but I didn’t notice any issues wearing these for a couple hours at a time.

Watch me try all of these lipsticks on below. I was CRYING laughing at that white lipstick on me. It looks. so. strange.

Overall, both companies did an amazing job making these strange colors feel and wear just like their regular colors. I can’t wait for them to come out with more–greens, yellows, teals, oranges… bring it on!!

BRB, wearing Sapphire Siren for the rest of my life nao.
