Permanent Favorites – Clarisonic Mia and Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove

Permanent Favorites – Clarisonic Mia and Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove

Product reviews, Tools
As I've started gathering items for my upcoming May favorites post, I've come across two things that I know will always make that list. So, rather than list them every single month, I decided to write about them separately. 1. Clarisonic Mia I got the Clarisonic Mia in lavender last January, and it is hands-down the best skincare item I own. I have oily (and thus, pimple-prone) skin, but the biggest skin problem I've had is that the harsh chemicals in acne creams and treatments gave my skin teeny bumps and redness. I kept mistaking it for acne, so I kept putting those chemicals all over my face, making it worse. I started looking into the Clarisonic because I wanted something to help even my skin's texture, clean deeper, and…

TheBalm Blushes – Down Boy, Hot Mama

TheBalm Blushes – Down Boy, Hot Mama

Face, Product reviews
TheBalm is not one of the most well-known brands out there, but they really have quality blushes (and super cute packaging)! And the best part is that I got both of these for half the price, I think at about $10 each, from Hautelook. If you don't know what Hautelook is, it's a site that has certain brands go on sale for a few days at a time, and you can get anything from beauty products to clothes to housewares for a huge discount. TheBalm is featured there fairly often, so I don't usually buy anything from them until then, although I'm super curious about their new Instain Blushes (you can check those out here). Down Boy is a cool pink with a little shimmer, but it looks matte on…

Haul + First Impressions: Nordstrom, Sephora, Rite Aid

Haul + First Impressions: Nordstrom, Sephora, Rite Aid

Beauty hauls, First impressions, Product reviews
Hi, there! My mom and I did a little shopping,  so I thought I'd share what I got, along with my first impressions of each item. We went to Nordstrom, Sephora, and Rite Aid. MAC Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder - Nude on Board I was looking for a good bronzer because I didn't bring one home with me for the summer. I actually haven't gotten anything from MAC before, which is kind of ridiculous, so it seemed about time. The compact is really beautiful---it's smooth and shines a reddish brown in the light. It also has a good sized mirror inside, which is always a plus. The bronzer goes on light for my skin tone, but it can be built up darker. I don't know if I can say it…

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in #5

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in #5

Lips, Product reviews
I was at Sephora recently and decided to finally splurge on a YSL lipstick. I was a bit nervous because I've heard that once you try one, you're hooked, and I can't get addicted to a product that's $34 a pop. But I had a gift card, so that makes it OK, right? I'll first state the obvious: the packaging is gorgeous. Everyone's seen it. Everyone's talked about it. But seriously, look at it. Let's move on. I saw that there was a new-ish line out (Rouge Volupte Shine rather than Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant), so I decided to check that out. I decided on #5 "Fuchsia in Excess," a beautiful bright cool-toned pink, and apparently it's a Sephora exclusive. I like to think of the color as the…

Limited Edition Maybelline Color Tattoos – Seashore Frosts, Waves of White, Shady Shores, and Icy Mint

Limited Edition Maybelline Color Tattoos – Seashore Frosts, Waves of White, Shady Shores, and Icy Mint

Eyes, Product reviews
I'm so sorry I'm late on this review---I haven't had much time to photograph swatches lately, and I wanted some time to play with the colors to decide which combinations to show you! So, I have finally been united with the rest of my new Color Tattoos--Seashore Frosts (40), Waves of White (20), Shady Shores (25), and Icy Mint (30)! If you're wondering, this means I don't own Precious Pearl (10), Cool Crush (35), and Lavish Lavender (45). [caption id="attachment_92" align="alignnone" width="300"] Seashore Frosts, Waves of White, Shady Shores, and Icy Mint[/caption] Like I mentioned in my post about Blue Paradise (15), I really just wanted to get Seashore Frosts after looking at a bunch of swatches online. But now that I have all of these, I'm glad I tried…

L’Oreal Paris Magic Soufflé Foundation

L’Oreal Paris Magic Soufflé Foundation

Face, Product reviews
I found this foundation on sale at Target recently, and I hadn't heard anything about it, so I decided to go for it and see if it was any good. I got shade 516 Nude Beige. It's one of those trendy "whipped" foundations that some bloggers have been loving. I tried applying this with my fingers and with a brush, and both work fine. I think I prefer using a brush, but either way, it's not too difficult to get fairly even coverage with this. It evens my skin tone and covers minor bumps and blemishes pretty well. [caption id="attachment_55" align="alignnone" width="225"] Before blending[/caption] [caption id="attachment_56" align="alignnone" width="225"] Blended[/caption] I only had a couple issues with this foundation. It goes on kind of dry, which is fine for my oily…

Stila Smudge Pot

Stila Smudge Pot

Eyes, Product reviews
I really wanted to try Stila's eyeshadow in Kitten because I've heard so many great things about the color. When I walked up to the Stila display at Sephora to buy it, this caught my eye: It's the cream version of Kitten! I'm one of those unfortunate people who always has to deal with eyeshadow creasing by the end of the day, so I thought that maybe this smudge pot would be a better investment for me. It's marketed as an eyeliner and eyeshadow, but this is the only shade I could see using across my entire lid. And, since its formulated to do both, it's a seriously heavy-duty cream shadow. It's a bit drier than other cream shadows out there, but once you get used to that, it's just…

Limited Edition Maybelline Color Tattoos – Blue Paradise

Limited Edition Maybelline Color Tattoos – Blue Paradise

Eyes, Product reviews
Just like a hundred other girls, I've been on the hunt for the limited edition Maybelline Color Tattoos for summer 2013. I even enlisted my mom across the country to help me search. Finally, I found the two-shade display with Blue Paradise and Precious Pearl at Ulta. I didn't feel too strongly about Precious Pearl, but I snagged Blue Paradise (15). I really just wanted Seashore Frosts, but I couldn't resist this one. It's one of the duochrome shades: a beautiful Pacific blue with a hint of purple shimmer. I didn't remember seeing it online when I was first reading about these shades, but it's definitely part of the line. It seems that this shade and Precious Pearl are for some reason being sold together in certain displays. [caption id="attachment_13"…
