Morphe Eyeshadows, Blushes, and Brushes

Hello! I saw Morphe on Hautelook recently and decided to try out a few of their products. I got a brush set, a blush palette, and an eyeshadow palette. You can see me use these products for the first time in my video. https://youtu.be/V2kL7whjtes As you just saw, the brushes were just not what I expected. The bristles are much less dense than my other brushes, and the blending brush was shedding on me in the first use! The smaller eye brushes seem to be fine in terms of shedding, but those are a lot harder to get wrong. I still haven't tried the stippling brushes... I'm scared. I do like the variety of brushes in this set, though, and I think it could be a good starter kit for…

Video Update: Maybelline Better Skin Challenge + All About My Tieks!

Face, Product reviews, Style
Hi all, I put a few videos up recently and thought I'd put them up here in case you're not subscribed to my channel. First, I made a quick update to talk about my new job, video ideas, hate comments. Surprise guest = the snacks I eat in bed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS5-nrDi8MQ Next, I took the three-week #betterskinchallenge with the Maybelline Better Skin Foundation, which I received from Influenster. Check out my journey and review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iu8A_IasV0 And by popular request, I talked all about my Tieks. I've been posting about these shoes since I got my first pair two years ago, and now that I've decided to add another pair to the family, it seemed about time to talk about why I'm crazy enough to spend so much on flats. You can also get…

Lorac Contour Palette + Brush Review

Lorac Contour Palette + Brush Review

Face, Product reviews, Videos
Hey guys, I've had this contour palette since it came out in June. I'm so embarrassed! I filmed a video very soon after I bought it, but I didn't like the footage and life sort of got away from me for a while. But now, I have a review for you. You can watch the video below, or skip below for a quick overview of my thoughts and some close-ups and swatches. http://youtu.be/_a90w6V0etI The packaging has a soft rubberized finish, similar to NARS packaging. This means that while it feels amazing to hold in your hands, it will get dirty pretty quickly! So far, I haven't had too much trouble with that, but I'm waiting... https://flic.kr/p/wzNSNB Now for what's inside. You get three contour powders and three highlight powders. They're…

Foundation Samples Mini-Reviews

Face, Product reviews
Hi all, I've gotten a few foundation samples recently and decided to put them all to the test, and let you know which ones I think are worth trying out or buying full-size. Let's get to it! Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Mattifying Oil-Free - Light Beige https://flic.kr/p/wQe6ZM https://flic.kr/p/wQe2Z2 https://flic.kr/p/wQJNct This foundation is a terrible shade match for me (as you can see in the swatches), which is a shame because I absolutely love the texture of it. This feels like a true liquid-to-powder foundation that leaves a soft matte finish, and it sets almost immediately. I did put this on my face (dedication!) and it seemed like great coverage and didn't cling to dry or uneven patches of skin, but of course it's hard to tell when the shade was so…

Review and Demo: Beauty Blender Dupes

Review and Demo: Beauty Blender Dupes

Comparisons, Face, Product reviews, Tools, Videos
Hi, everyone! I have a side-by-side comparison of the beloved Beauty Blender with two drugstore versions: the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge (the orange one) and the Precision Beauty Blending sponge (the purple one, not to be confused with the yellow Sephora Precision Sponge). The Real Techniques sponge is $4.99 at Ulta, and the Precision sponge is $4.99 at Marshall's. These two drugstore sponges are talked about the most, I think, as dupes for the Beauty Blender, so I wanted to put them to the test first. If there are other dupes you've heard about, please let me know so I can do a part two. I know I promised this post and video long ago (this post was drafted back in June...yikes!), but I hated my initial footage and wanted…

Hi all, I wanted to get a review up for this because I'm not sure how long it will be in stores! I've also been using all three of these products since I got the set, and I can't wait to share them with you. https://flic.kr/p/pvTG1K Shadow Insurance I'll talk about this product first, as I already had a full-sized tube and have been using this for quite a while now. Mine needed some shaking/mixing after I bought it, because a watery clear substance was coming out before the actual product. But once I got through that phase, this tube has lasted me a long, long time. This eyelid primer definitely makes my eyeshadow last longer, and it's nice and light so it has a very natural look and feel…

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

Face, Product reviews
Hi, everyone! Sorry for the brief hiatus there - my college had its spring Carnival and my honors thesis was due just afterwards, so needless to say I was a bit swamped. But now it's smooth sailing until graduation... wait, what? Even though I'm coming back for one year of grad school, it's unbelievable that I'm nearly done with undergrad. Anyway... I've had the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation for a couple months now. Even though I've only used the one I purchased, I should disclose that I received another one complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes (as you saw in my Uni Voxbox). The one I chose is a good shade match, so I'll be holding onto the other one to share with a friend! Now it's time to…

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

Eyes, Face, Product reviews
Hi! As you may have seen in my birthday haul, I finally splurged on MAC's Pro Longwear Concealer to cover up my purple-toned under eye area. This concealer goes on very thin yet pigmented, so it doesn't take much to get full coverage. It seems to look best when I take a few minutes to use thin layers and blend it out.  This is definitely not a "throw on and go" kind of product! If I try and rush it, this can settle into fine lines or look cakey. So expect a learning curve with this product, but the extra time is worth it! My only real problem with this concealer is that the pump dispenses way too much product, and you have no control over how much comes out…

Blush Dupes?

Blush Dupes?

Comparisons, Face, Product reviews
Hi everyone! I thought I'd give you all a quick post about these blushes. Since spring is coming along we'll soon be turning back to our coral-pink blushes, and every spring you see everyone talking about NARS Orgasm and potential dupes for it. I have a few of the common claimed dupes, so I thought I'd see for myself whether these really do look the same. [caption id="attachment_1400" align="alignnone" width="480"] Top to bottom: NARS Orgasm, NYX Pinched, ELF St. Lucia duo, Milani Luminoso[/caption] NARS Orgasm First, let's look at NARS Orgasm. This blush is sheer, with a coral-pink base and golden shimmer. It's a little difficult to build for me on the cheeks but it's a beautiful color. NYX Blush in Pinched This blush is more pigmented and has a…

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation

Face, Product reviews
Hey! I decided to try out this foundation because I thought it would work well on my oily/combination skin. I had never tried a foundation with a purely matte finish before, so I bought this along with the Dream Matte powder, which I like a lot. The foundation is in Classic Ivory Light 2. Packaging: The twist-off cap makes this packaging feel very sturdy, and it's very compact compared to other whipped foundations (Revlon Colorstay whipped, for example). I don't love the curved shape of the cap, because I can't stack anything on top of it. It's also a bit heavy since it's glass, but it's not a huge difference from a liquid foundation in a glass container. It holds .64 oz (18g) of product. Texture: The whipped texture of this foundation…

Tarte Off the Cuff 2013 Holiday Blush Palette

Tarte Off the Cuff 2013 Holiday Blush Palette

Face, Palettes and sets, Product reviews
Hi everyone, I'm getting back into reviews, and I'm so excited to share this blush palette with you! I just purchased this during the VIB 20% off sale, and I haven't used any other blushes or bronzers since. The palette retails for $42, and you get 4 blushes and a bronzer, as well as a cute cuff bracelet. I was so excited to see this palette when it came out because I love Tarte's Amazonian Clay blushes and I've been wanting to try more shades. They're super blendable, pigmented, and long-lasting. A look at the packaging: https://flic.kr/p/qb68us https://flic.kr/p/qsD1G4 I didn't think I would like the glittery packaging, but it's really more of a shiny woven fabric, so you don't have to worry about glitter falling off of it while you…

Time Balm Foundation

Time Balm Foundation

Face, Product reviews
Happy Hump Day! I love TheBalm, so when I was getting a couple of things from them on Hautelook, I decided to try their Time Balm foundation. I got the second-lightest shade, Light/Medium. It's a thick cream foundation that comes in a plastic compact with a screw-on lid. There's no mirror, but it comes with a sponge. I usually use just a brush or swirl it with my finger to warm it up and them buff it in with a brush (if you use your fingers, remember to wash/sanitize your hands first!). https://flic.kr/p/pvSWKX https://flic.kr/p/qb6k6y The color match is pretty good with this. It looks almost orange in the photo, but you can probably see in the little dent that it does come off lighter than it looks. There is a…
