Pare Down: April Update

Empties and purges, Eyes, Face, Lifestyle, Lips, Organization, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
Another month already? Man, this month was rough. My routine was thrown off a lot and I had some intense work deadlines, so tidying was straight-up not a priority for me. I can't help but think I could have tried harder or pushed through, but I needed that time to focus on my work and my family and friends, and I'm much happier for it in the end. This is a fantastic lesson in expressing understanding towards myself -- it's something I offer freely to others but don't extend to myself. I got on and off track with my daily tidying goal and my strength training. I managed to cook about three meals per week. I packed lunches fairly regularly instead of buying (a luxury in downtown SF). I got all the…

First Impression + Review: Juvia’s Place Nubian I and II Palettes

First Impression + Review: Juvia’s Place Nubian I and II Palettes

Beauty steals, Eyes, First impressions, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
I was SO excited to try these palettes. Juvia's Place is an indy makeup brand and they've had a ton of success from their Nubian palettes. You may have seen some hype surrounding their newest release, the Saharan palette. I only heard about it after I made my purchase, though, so I only have the first and second palettes. This brand is cruelty-free, and most of their products are vegan (these two palettes are). Their brushes are cruelty-free, so next time I need brushes I might check them out! Their palettes and colors are inspired by the people and culture of different places in Africa. I came across the Nubian I palette on Pinterest, and then realized I'd seen it on Jaclyn Hill's channel. I also got the Nubian II palette…

Morphe Eyeshadows, Blushes, and Brushes

Morphe Eyeshadows, Blushes, and Brushes

Beauty hauls, Eyes, Face, First impressions, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Tools, Videos
Hello! I saw Morphe on Hautelook recently and decided to try out a few of their products. I got a brush set, a blush palette, and an eyeshadow palette. You can see me use these products for the first time in my video. https://youtu.be/V2kL7whjtes As you just saw, the brushes were just not what I expected. The bristles are much less dense than my other brushes, and the blending brush was shedding on me in the first use! The smaller eye brushes seem to be fine in terms of shedding, but those are a lot harder to get wrong. I still haven't tried the stippling brushes... I'm scared. I do like the variety of brushes in this set, though, and I think it could be a good starter kit for…

L'Oreal La Palettes 1 & 2 Review

L'Oreal La Palettes 1 & 2 Review

Eyes, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
Hey guys! I was able to find these new L’Oreal La Palette nude eyeshadow palettes at Target a couple weeks ago, so I wanted to do a quick review while everyone is starting to talk about these.  I have both of the available palettes—one is warmer-toned and the other has cooler, purple-toned shades. These have 10 shades each are $20 each at Target and most drugstores, but I’ve heard that Walmart has them for $15 each. I definitely suggest that you check for deals at your local drugstore, because these are a lot more expensive than what you usually see, but you mostly see BOGO half off, which only helps you if you’re getting both.  Anyway, I talk about these palettes and show live swatches in my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jChi1ts-a6Y In…

NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Palette

NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Palette

Eyes, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
Hey, guys! The purchase I made that got me the sample of the new Benefit Roller Lash mascara was the NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Palette. I've been using it for a couple weeks now, and I have some mixed feelings about it so far. The palette is $79, which is quite an investment for a palette this size compared to similar palettes. But I'd heard amazing things about these shadows: they can be used wet or dry, they blend well, they're pigmented. I loved that this palette has such a nice range of shades, covering your basic neutrals as well as including a couple of unexpected colors. This palette also comes with a brush--and a good one, too. It's their wet/dry brush (I don't know the specific name, but that's the gist),…

Hey guys, I am absolutely in love with the Glam Glow Gift Sexy set, which comes with a full size Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment and travel sizes of the Supermud Clearing Mask and Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment. So in love, that I ran out and found one of the last ones in my area to give away to YOU GUYS! This set is going away, so make sure to enter if you've been wanting to try Glam Glow products. This set is $69 at Sephora, which is a great deal because normally one mask alone is $69. I also paired these purchases with the 20% off VIB sale and the $20 off $50 purchase promotion they sent recently. I reviewed these masks on my YouTube channel, but I also wrote quick reviews…

Too Faced Beauty Blogger Darlings Review

Too Faced Beauty Blogger Darlings Review

Eyes, Face, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
Hi all, I wanted to get a review up for this because I'm not sure how long it will be in stores! I've also been using all three of these products since I got the set, and I can't wait to share them with you. https://flic.kr/p/pvTG1K Shadow Insurance I'll talk about this product first, as I already had a full-sized tube and have been using this for quite a while now. Mine needed some shaking/mixing after I bought it, because a watery clear substance was coming out before the actual product. But once I got through that phase, this tube has lasted me a long, long time. This eyelid primer definitely makes my eyeshadow last longer, and it's nice and light so it has a very natural look and feel…

BH Cosmetics "That's Heart" Palette Review + Tutorial

BH Cosmetics "That's Heart" Palette Review + Tutorial

Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Tutorials and Tips, Videos
Hi guys, I grabbed this BH Cosmetics "That's Heart" palette from Hautelook for a hefty discount fairly recently, and after a few weeks of trying it out, I'm finally ready to give you guys a review! You know how some products you try once, and you just know how they work? Like my last review on the color-changing lipstick. It was clear after one use how I felt about it, and how to describe it to you guys. Well, this palette took a little more time to figure out. It caught my eye for the eyeshadows--I love that there are a few neutrals and a few colors--and the fact that the bronzer, blush, and highlight were built in, too. How can I say no to convenience? Here are the swatches of the eyeshadows: And…

NYX Butt "Naked" Eyes Palette

Palettes and sets, Product reviews
Hi everyone, I've pulled this back out for my January makeup basket and decided to give you all a full review with swatches. I think NYX products can really be hit or miss, and this palette contains some of each. The cool things about this product are the packaging, and that it has both eye and cheek products. The lid lifts to reveal a full mirror and fifteen eyeshadows, and the bottom compartment slides out for the four blushes, bronzer, and two highlights. I was hoping to use this product for traveling, but it's a bit thick and doesn't feel totally secure. I also haven't spent much time with the products, which this month will hopefully fix. Eyeshadows Shade 1: a pretty buttery matte ivory Shade 2: a light warm…

Stila Artist Essentials Set

Stila Artist Essentials Set

Palettes and sets, Product reviews
If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen me post a picture of this set. I got this from my sister and her boyfriend for Christmas and I was really happy to have so much to try out! This set gives a great assortment of products: four eyeshadow palettes, a sample-sized convertible color for lips and cheeks, an eyeshadow brush, an eyeliner, and a sample-sized liquid lipstick. The only mirror in this kit is in the convertible color, which is a little bit of a let down, but everything pops out, making the items travel-friendly. The kit comes with a small card that gives step-by-step instructions for a look you can do with each palette. Convertible Color in Peony I've said before that I've always been a little uncomfortable with…

Naked 3 Palette – Review and Comparison

Naked 3 Palette – Review and Comparison

Comparisons, Eyes, Palettes and sets, Product reviews
Hey guys, I'm so excited to be writing this post today, because I've been playing with the Naked 3 for a few days now and can't wait to show you some swatches! I ordered it a few weeks ago when Sephora sent out the $20 off $50 VIB coupon, and had it sent it home so it would be waiting for me when I got here. But I didn't want to just do a review of the palette, which you can get just about anywhere these days. I made sure to bring home my Naked palette to compare (I'll be referring to it as "Naked 1," which I know isn't technically correct but it makes things simpler). I don't own the Naked 2, so I can't do full swatches of…

Perfect Palette Tag

Perfect Palette Tag

Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Tags
Hi everyone, I saw this tag going around YouTube this past month, and since people like to ask for palettes for the holiday season or treat themselves to something nice, it seemed like the perfect time to share some of my favorite palettes! Before I start, I have a few things to clarify: I'll be focusing just on gift-sized (or priced) eyeshadow palettes, and as many different palettes as I can fit in this post while still answering honestly. Some of these palettes contain blushes or other products in them, but the primary focus is on the eyeshadows. But if you're looking for a great blush palette, check out my review of Tarte's Holiday Blush Palette. Now for the palettes! 1) Best Packaging: Urban Decay Ammo Palette https://flic.kr/p/qb7D5N https://flic.kr/p/pvF8Jf People…
