Diorshow Mascara

When I returned the NARS Larger than Life lengthening mascara that I really disliked from a few weeks ago, I decided to again try something new and went for Diorshow. It’s rated so highly on Sephora’s website that I thought it was worth a try.

The wand is very big, which made it a bit difficult to work with for me. I had some trouble reaching the inner and outer lashes without accidentally depositing way too much product. However, when used carefully, it did look quite nice:

The claim on this mascara is that it’s buildable for customizable drama, without clumping. I didn’t really find this to be true. It is definitely more buildable than most other mascaras I’ve tried, but it did start to look a bit clumpy with more than one coat. I also didn’t feel like it held a curl very well, which is important to me because I have straight lashes. It looks great going on, but by the end of the day my lashes felt a little droopy.

But my big beef with this mascara is the packaging. The opening is shaped in such a way that any excess product that comes off when you pull out the wand doesn’t get pushed back in, so the product gets stuck at the top and dries. I’ve been able to clean it off without letting any of the dried-up mascara fall in, but I feel like it’s a major waste of product, which bugs me. I was so happy to see the size of the tube and amount of product for a high-end, expensive mascara, but enough of it gets ruined that I don’t think I’m getting as much for my money as I thought I would be.

And a final observation: this mascara is rose-scented. I’m really not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, it’s nice to have pretty-scented makeup, but on the other hand, I don’t really want fragrances near my eyes.

In short,Β this mascara looks nice and is buildable, but product gets wasted easily and it doesn’t hold a curl very well. This is definitely worth a try if you get your hands on a sample or have some extra cash, but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing it. I may try one of the other formulas, though.Β Have any of you had better luck with another version of this mascara?

  • I would have a hard time paying $30 for a mascara that doesn’t hold a curl especially when Benefit they’re real is cheaper than that and it does! I just have such small eyes that curl and length are necessities haha. I have not tried any Dior products but I definitely want to at some point πŸ™‚

    • Yes, curl is a priority for me too! I’m sure this would be great for someone who doesn’t need it to hold a curl as much. The Benefit one is one of my favorites! The only Dior products I’ve tried are the mascara and lip balm. I want to try more someday πŸ™‚

        • I’m still deciding. It is a little sticky but it is great under lip colors, and smells like roses (if you’re into that). I’m just not sure if its worth the price because there are a million other lip balms out there. I’m planning on doing a big lip balms post when I get back to school in the fall!

          • I am planning on doing one of those sometime soon as well! When do you go back to school? I go the end of August and start the beginning ot September. This is your senior year as well right? πŸ™‚ I feel like the Rose Lip Salve from Sephora that is $6 would do the same thing then and it’s not sticky. It’s hard cuz expensive things are tempting because I feel like with the price tag they must be amazing but that is definitely not always the case.

          • I know. I was tempted for the packaging and the hype, and I’m definitely going to use it all (maybe I can clean out the pot and use it for something else, too), but I don’t think I’ll get it again. I want to try the Nivea lip butters.

Yes, I’m going to be a senior as well! I got back mid-august and start that last week of August. But first my boyfriend will be coming up to visit, so I’ll have someone to travel with, which is great. All-day traveling sucks alone.

          • I’ve heard great things about those as well and they come in such yummy flavors! Aww that is nice he is coming to travel with you cuz yeah it does! My boyfriend is actually coming up to Alaska for a week in 19 days and I am seriously so excited. Then 3 weeks after he leaves it’s time for senior year to start…I don’t undestand where time went…aren’t we still freshman? You can tell it’s getting close to the beginning of the year because I am starting to get FB adds from incoming freshman who I have never met haha

          • Yeah, I’m in a Facebook group for my dorm community, which is mostly incoming freshmen, so I’ve been getting their questions about stuff! That’s nice you’re getting a visit from your guy, too. It’s nice to have a teensy bit of summer before we go back to school.

I really can’t believe it’s my last year…I feel like being a student is tied to my identity…major identity crisis coming up! I can’t wait for the day I figure out where I’ll be living and what I’ll be doing. So happy to have others in my blogging/Internet life who are going through the same thing! I see lots of long supportive comment chains like this in our futures πŸ˜€

          • Seriously! When is your graduation date? I graduate April 2014 which I feel is way to early for me to be thrown out into the adult world…I’m not ready to be an adult πŸ˜‰ I do know what you mean though like I see people doing apartment tours or showing off their vanity set up. My “apartment” is my room in my sorority house and my “vanity” is my desk drawers in the desk provided by the school haha so I am exceited to get my own place and decorate and start my future…but I’m just not ready quite yet. Good thing we have one more year ahead of us! I’m so glad we still have some summer left as well πŸ™‚

          • Wow, that’s early! I graduate mid-may. My boyfriend will be graduating from graduate school at the same time, which is pretty handy πŸ™‚

I just laughed in the middle of my office about the apartment/vanity tour videos. I’m with you on that. I think I’m looking forward to being a “real adult” just for a real closet and space for my makeup.

But yes, there is time left to appreciate the way my life is now. I’m really excited for my last year of school to really appreciate being in college!

          • Stop…my boyfriend is graduating from graduate school the same day as me too! haha that is seriously so weird! We have something called Mayterm where you only take one class for the month of may and graduation used to be after but this last year they decided to move graduation to before to I will be graduating the end of April. REAL CLOSET SPACE…I miss that so much at school! haha this year I have a small walk in closet though which is definitely nice πŸ™‚ but still haha I want a big one and I want to be able to dedicate an area of my home to my makeup addiction not just have everything crammed in a couple drawers lol

          • Haha I have a couple of those on my desk to hold my overflow of makeup and yeah that is so weird haha it’s nice cuz he goes to the same school I do but he is just in grad school so we will have our graduation on the same day just at a different time πŸ™‚

          • Same here! Carnegie Mellon does the one big Commencement ceremony but diplomas for different schools and departments separately (and honors students have an extra one), so my boyfriend and I will both have the big ceremony at the same time but everything else will be separate. Pretty convenient situations for both of us, it seems! I can’t get over how weird this is haha!

          • Seriously haha even that they both go to our schools as well. Yeah my school does them seperate but on the same day so it’ll be nice because we can both go to eachothers and both of our familes will be there and be able to meet πŸ™‚ Are you going to grad school after?

          • I’m not sure yet. I think I might get a job and see how much I can do without the extra degree. Another option is to add a year at my current school to get a masters, but it’s really small so they don’t let a lot in, and they’ve told me I’ve taken too many of the requirements as an undergrad. I’ll probably apply just to see, but I’m betting on working for now. How about you?

          • I am actually going to go to beauty school πŸ™‚ I just haven’t decided where yet it just kind of depends on where my bf gets a job after graduation. Yeah all my friends are studying for the GREs and getting ready to start applications and I am so glad I don’t have to do that! Being a senior double major is crazy enough without having to worry about grad school apps. I am going to apply to beauty schools in the spring and start next fall

          • I’m not sure yet. Writing is extremely flexible so I’m still trying things out. I love fiction, but when it comes to an “actual” job, I’m probably going to look for things that are really unique and different. I want to know what’s out there!

          • I think that’s an awesome idea and hopefully will give you all kinds of inspiration for your writing πŸ™‚ we’ll just have to keep in touch through our blogs and see where the other is at!
