When I returned the NARS Larger than Life lengthening mascara that I really disliked from a few weeks ago, I decided to again try something new and went for Diorshow. It’s rated so highly on Sephora’s website that I thought it was worth a try.
The wand is very big, which made it a bit difficult to work with for me. I had some trouble reaching the inner and outer lashes without accidentally depositing way too much product. However, when used carefully, it did look quite nice:
The claim on this mascara is that it’s buildable for customizable drama, without clumping. I didn’t really find this to be true. It is definitely more buildable than most other mascaras I’ve tried, but it did start to look a bit clumpy with more than one coat. I also didn’t feel like it held a curl very well, which is important to me because I have straight lashes. It looks great going on, but by the end of the day my lashes felt a little droopy.
But my big beef with this mascara is the packaging. The opening is shaped in such a way that any excess product that comes off when you pull out the wand doesn’t get pushed back in, so the product gets stuck at the top and dries. I’ve been able to clean it off without letting any of the dried-up mascara fall in, but I feel like it’s a major waste of product, which bugs me. I was so happy to see the size of the tube and amount of product for a high-end, expensive mascara, but enough of it gets ruined that I don’t think I’m getting as much for my money as I thought I would be.
And a final observation: this mascara is rose-scented. I’m really not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, it’s nice to have pretty-scented makeup, but on the other hand, I don’t really want fragrances near my eyes.
In short, this mascara looks nice and is buildable, but product gets wasted easily and it doesn’t hold a curl very well. This is definitely worth a try if you get your hands on a sample or have some extra cash, but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing it. I may try one of the other formulas, though. Have any of you had better luck with another version of this mascara?
