I got another voxbox from Influenster recently, and I’ve been trying out the products so I can show you what I got along with some first impressions! If you don’t know what Influenster is, check out my first voxbox post for a description. Essentially, these products were sent to me for reviewing purposes, but as always, this review will contain my honest experiences and opinions.
Now for the box…
The box came with “college essentials.” Here’s a list of the products and their retail value:
- 3 small samples and coupons for Clearasil Daily Clear Refreshing Superfruit Wash – the bottle costs $6.49
- Airheads Xtreme Bites – $1.69 for a 6 oz. bag
- Kiss Nail Dress – $6.99 at Walgreens
- NYC New York Color Big Bold Plumping & Shine Lip Gloss – $3.99
- 1 Tide Pods capsule – not sure of the retail price
I’ve only gotten to use this a couple of times, but I think I really like it! It’s a gentle gel cleanser with “superfruit” extracts, vitamin B3, and 1% salicylic acid for acne. It smells really good and doesn’t make my skin feel dry or tight afterwards. We’ll see if it does anything for my skin’s texture or breakouts.
Airheads Xtreme Bites
I got the Rainbow Berry flavor, and I was surprised at how much I liked these! I usually don’t love sour candy, but these weren’t overwhelmingly sour.
You can tell I liked them because here’s what the bag looked like two days later:
In my defense, I shared these with some friends right when I opened them. One of them said, “It’s like eating rainbows.” I definitely want to try the other flavors now.
Kiss Nail Dress
I was excited to see these in my box. I’ve tried nail strips before and they’re a pain to get off, but these advertise that you can get them off without remover. I received the design KDS12, a golden/clear bubbled texture, and a coupon. The package comes with 28 jeweled strips and a small nail file to help put them on, as well as a little booklet with instructions.
I tried these on my bare nails, and I could NOT get them to stay on! You’re supposed to smooth them on, fold them over, and file off the excess, but when I tried to fold them they would come off the rest of my nail. I tried trimming them down instead but then it wouldn’t stick to the top half of my nail, and I couldn’t file off the edges to clean it up.
I’m going to try using these on top of nail polish to see if that helps. I might also try cutting them down to use them as stripes over a nail polish or something. So I’m not going to say these are a complete dud yet, they just don’t seem to work on their own.
NYC Lip Gloss
Now, I’m going to start this by saying I really don’t like lip gloss. I feel like it’s too sticky and drying. However, this lip gloss felt really moisturizing and long-wearing (and it smells great). I got the shade 467 Pleasantly Plump Pink, which I’m not in love with but looks alright over a lip color. It tingled a bit when I put it on for the “plumping action,” but honestly I think that was just for show, because I didn’t think my lips looked any different, but I’m ok with that because I don’t think I really need it.
The applicator has a little dip in it to hold more product, so you’re not having to get more as you apply, which I really liked. Overall, I probably would have chosen a different color, but that aside, the formula seems pretty good and not sticky for a lip gloss.
I used to use these when I started college and was too scared to buy liquid detergent because I thought I’d waste it. They clean just as well, I think, but I did have some trouble with finding the plastic casing stuck to one of my towels or sheets, and it wouldn’t completely wash off the next time. I finally switched over to liquid once I realized I would probably use the whole thing in a school year, but this pod will definitely be handy if I ever have to bring my laundry somewhere outside the dorm to wash it.
That’s it for the box! I hope you guys liked seeing my Influenster goodies. Feel free to ask me any questions about the program or the products below. Thanks for reading!
