October Favorites

Hi all,

Now for my October favorites! This month was a bit confusing because the weather was all over the place, but luckily I found a few dependable products to get me through.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

I’ve needed a bit more coverage this month, and I’m glad I finally picked up this foundation! A little goes a long way with this foundation, and I feel like it gives a really nice, even coverage. I haven’t even had problems with dry spots around my nose like I usually do with foundations, which is awesome. It dries very fast, so I’ve been dipping a q-tip in to get some product, closing the bottle, and then dabbing it on and buffing it in with a brush. That’s been working really well for me so far, so if you’re having trouble using this foundation, I suggest trying that.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 24-hr blush in Flush

I’ve been reaching for this blush as the weather’s gotten colder because it gives my cheeks a nice natural flush that lasts ALL day. Since the color is so dark in the pan, I have to be really careful with it as I put it on. It’s amazing how much color you can get with so little product! I can’t imagine even making a dent in this thing, let alone ever use it up. You can see in the photo that it looks brand new, and I’ve had it almost a year. I really want to try a less purple-toned shade in the future, so I think I’ll be checking out Tarte’s holiday sets 🙂

Laura Geller Balance ‘n Brighten in Medium

I snagged this from Hautelook in August, and I’ve been using it over my foundations to even out my skin’s tone and texture, and to give my skin a nice finish. I like that it adds a little bit of coverage, too. It was great on top of BB creams and lighter foundations in the warmer weather for that as well. I don’t think it does too much on its own, but I have some redness and unevenness that takes more than a powder foundation to cover.

Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara

I’ve been a little ambivalent about this mascara, but the more I’ve used it, the more impressed I’ve been! This really does lengthen the lashes well, and I feel like it holds my curl longer than some other mascaras I have. My one problem is that if I smudge it, it dries before I can rub it off, so I have to be really careful when I put it on.

Brow combo: Urban Decay Brow Box in Honey Pot, Anastasia Brow Whiz in Soft Brown

2013-11-04 18.03.33

I mentioned using these together in my last monthly favorites post, and I’ve used these together every day since! The brow whiz is perfect for filling in where my brows are sparse and giving a really clean shape to them, and the powder evens out the color and sets it. Perfect combo!

milani lipstick

Milani Lipstick in Naturally Chic

This is a great lipstick when I’m running out the door and need to throw something on. The scent of this lipstick is an instant pick-me-up! This shade is super close to my lip color, so I know it will go with everything. It lasts a really long time for a neutral lipstick, since it doesn’t stain or anything. It seems to set semi-matte, so I usually have to apply some lip balm after a couple hours.

Makeup Brush

Ecotools brush

Ecotools Powder Brush

I’ve had this brush for years, long enough to need to retire it, but I can’t seem to find a replacement! I just love the size of this brush. I’ve been taking it as my only powder brush when I’m packing a makeup bag for going out or staying elsewhere for a night, and it’s perfect for setting powder, blush, and bronzer. You can see in the photo that it’s tapered and narrow when it’s turned sideways, so I can easily get a good contour with it, and the wide side is perfect for blush and all-over powder. I can’t imagine not having this brush around!

Thanks for reading! Until next time…

    • Thank you! I’m glad you’re going to try out the Colorstay foundation. It really is great. Make sure you exfoliate and use a moisturizer underneath, even with oily skin. I have oily/combo skin and I definitely make sure I prep right! I recommend waiting for a BOGO deal at a drugstore or Ulta (if you’re in the US) and trying out the concealer as well. Let me know how it works out!

  • How would you describe the color of the Milani lipstick? On my monitor it looks a reddish brown… is that accurate?

Great post, I love Colorstay and the Tarte blushes too. 🙂

    • It’s more a pinkish-brown, really natural. The great thing about these lipsticks too is that the bottom has a swatch, so of you happen to see one in a store you’ll get a good look at the color before you buy it. Thank you for reading, glad you like so many of the products!

  • Hey! I’ve been following Michelle Phan on Youtube for a while (if you’re not familiar, just Google her). Anyhow, she’s just released her own cosmetics like with L’Oreal’s luxury branch (also responsible for YSL, Lancome, Urban Decay, etc). I was wondering if you were aware of the new cosmetics launch and if you were going to review any of her new stuff?

    • Yeah I’ve definitely heard of her and her new stuff! I haven’t taken a good look at the line, so I might if anything catches my eye. A couple of vloggers have talked about some stuff that looks good. Is there anything you’ve been looking at that you want a review for?

    • I think that Ecotools brush is the only one I have, but I will probably get more eventually. The lipstick is a really good one. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something natural and inexpensive.

    • Thank you! Milani lipsticks are wonderful and so budget-friendly. The Tarte blush is so great, too. I got that one in a holiday set last year, which save me a lot of money buying it.
