I purchased two of the magical Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows. There are two types–regular and duo chrome–and I got one of each so we can see if there are any differences between the two (other than shifting fairy dust, of course).
Check out my video for a live review, demos, and swatches:
About the Products
These eye shadows are $24 for .15 oz/4.5 mL, which is definitely on the pricey side. There are no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates, and they’re cruelty-free.
Kitten Karma – Regular Glitter Shadow
There are 11 regular glitter shades ranging from silver, gold, and brown shades to a couple reddish shades and a black. There are currently no cool-toned shades or dark shades other than the black. It would be cool to see some unique shades come out, or at least one in the blue or green family.
Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow is a long-wearing, sparkle eyeshadow with the perfect blend of pearl and glitter to leave your eyes with incredible luster and shimmer. With its uniquely lightweight, water-infused texture, it glides on effortlessly, then dries down smoothly, locking in maximum sparkle with minimal fallout for elevated eye looks.
I don’t really know what on earth isn’t “water-infused,” but this is generally an accurate description. These feel lightweight and smooth on the eyes.
Into the Blue – Duo Chrome Glitter Shadow
There are three duo chrome glitter shades (all currently sold out as of this publishing date): one pink base, one purple base, and one blue base. They definitely went for the “mermaid” trend! It would be great to see some other duo chrome shades come out, moving away from the mermaid thing and into some more cool combinations.
Bring a magical touch to your eye looks with Stila’s latest summer shades. These duo-chrome, pearlescent glitter eyeshadows deliver serious impact with their holographic-like, multicolor, multi-dimensional effect.
Yes, this one is pretty magical. I like that they said “holographic-like,” because it’s not technically holographic and they knew people would comment. Anyone else watch Simply Nailogical? That had me giggling.
Wear and Color
You can watch the video for my full review, but my overall thoughts are:
- The regular glitter is more opaque than the duo chrome.
- The brush shape is great. There’s a wide side and a narrow side, which makes it easy to get into the inner corner of the eyes without needing another brush.
- The instructions say to tap a brush along the edges to “blend,” but I didn’t find this to be easy or necessary.
- It takes a couple minutes for this to dry down.
- Fallout is minimal as long as you don’t touch it once it’s on.
- These are gorgeous and last a long time on the eyes.
I didn’t mention this in the video, but the duo chrome wasn’t as obvious when I wore it over a black eyeshadow. It took very direct lighting for the purple to show through. I’d like to try this again over a blue or purple eyeshadow and see if it’s more obvious. I don’t want to wear it alone because of the previously-mentioned sheerness of the duo chrome shades as compared to the regular shades.
Did you snag one of these, or are they on your wish list? Let me know what you think in the comments!
