Project Pan: THE RESULTS!!

Project Pan: THE RESULTS!!

Empties and purges, Product reviews, Videos
I'm finally back to report my results of the project pan I started back in March. Are you ready to see how it went? https://youtu.be/TnGZM2WeYh0 The Results Not many of these products had a very dramatic change, but I've learned in this process that it's really all about the details. I myself didn't even see some of the changes until I had the images side-by-side in my video editor. IT Cosmetics Celebration Illumination Foundation in Light - I started with quite a bit of pan showing, and now it's pretty significant. I was expecting more progress on this one, but partway through I figured out that this powder breaks me out! Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso - This blush is domed, so it's super hard to see, but I've been…

My First Project Pan!

My First Project Pan!

Lifestyle, Organization
Hi! I'm so excited to share my first project pan with you. Back in the early days of Broke for Beauty, I used to do a series called "the makeup basket," or something to that effect (see the first one here). I filled a basket each month with products that weren't getting a lot of love and made sure to use them as often as possible. Then, at the end of the month, I'd do mini-reviews of the products. This is similar. If you haven't heard of project pan before, it's a commitment to hitting pan or finishing a handful of products. I've shopped my stash for some of my most-loved products that somehow have seemed to stick around in my collection for too long. I've also set an end…

2017 Favorites (Cruelty-Free)

Favorites, Product reviews
What a year. I’m going to post my 2017 reflection and 2018 goals separately, but I’ll say right now that this year has been both challenging and rewarding in so many ways. I’m also happy to be spending my last night of 2017 at home making videos and writing instead of out partying. Woohoo! This year was an interesting year for me with makeup and skincare. I barely bought any makeup, instead doing one big purge in the middle of the year and another over the next couple days. I learned a lot about skincare and got quite a few products to try, but even then, I didn’t get all that much. This is the first year since I started to wear makeup that I spent so little. I feel…

2MT: Fall Colors

Fall, Seasonal, Tutorials and Tips, Videos
It's been a long time since I've done a two-minute transformation, so I thought it would be fun to do another one with fall colors. By coincidence, I ended up using all matte eyeshadows. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKJhPuHlJd0 The music in this video is by an awesome independent artist named Jasper Sawyer. Check out his YouTube page for all his music! I've linked to his channel in the video description. As for the products, well, I used quite a few: Becca Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation in Ivory Nude NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Light 2 Vanilla beautyblender Anastasia Brow Pomade in Soft Brown Hourglass Ambient Lightning Powder in Dim Light Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer Milani Coming Up Roses Blush in Awakening Rose Becca Highlighter in…

Comparison: Felt Tip Eyeliners

Comparison: Felt Tip Eyeliners

Comparisons, Eyes, Product reviews
I'm a huge fan of felt-tip eyeliners. I feel like I have so much more control with a felt tip than I do with a typical liquid liner brush, making winged liner so much quicker and easier. I have three felt-tip liners that I'm currently using, and I thought it would be helpful to do a review on each and compare them for you. Of course, this is only my personal experience with these products, and others may see different results or have different preferences than I do. https://flic.kr/p/qyWn77 I'll be sharing two drugstore liners and one high-end liner. You'll notice that the high-end liner is a sample size, because I got it in a set a while ago, so it was actually reasonably priced in that sense. Stila Stay…

CVS Haul | June 2014

CVS Haul | June 2014

Beauty hauls, Videos
Hi, guys! Very exciting times--I made a video to show what I got at CVS yesterday. I know it's not perfect, and in fact I'm super nervous posting it knowing that there are obvious flaws, but we've all gotta start somewhere, right? Please watch, enjoy, and let me know what you think! I definitely want to keep at it and get better, so suggestions are welcomed. First thing on my list for next time is to fix the lighting... Next is to find some better video editing software while I'm away from home this summer (I'm rocking iMovie 2010 here after getting used to Adobe Premiere Pro). [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU2algRRKM0?rel=0&w=560&h=315] In my haul: Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in Copper Chic (wearing in the video) Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Candied Toffees…

My Favorite Spring Lipsticks (Drugstore Edition)

My Favorite Spring Lipsticks (Drugstore Edition)

Lips, Product reviews, Seasonal, Spring
Hey! As the weather has warmed up here, I've found myself reaching for those bright, pick-me-up colors. I thought I'd share my favorite drugstore spring lipsticks first, because it's much more practical to try out bold lipsticks when you're only shelling out a few dollars. SO BEAUTIFUL :') You'll notice I didn't choose to use sheer colors or pastels, and this is because I have larger lips and have trouble pulling those off. I also think lipsticks that pack a little more punch go with a lot more looks, and are more customizable when it comes to coverage. Spring doesn't limit you to easter egg colors! Corals I've got two coral lipsticks in my rotation, one that's more pink and one that's more orange. If you're warm-toned like me, these will…

Blush Dupes?

Blush Dupes?

Comparisons, Face, Product reviews
Hi everyone! I thought I'd give you all a quick post about these blushes. Since spring is coming along we'll soon be turning back to our coral-pink blushes, and every spring you see everyone talking about NARS Orgasm and potential dupes for it. I have a few of the common claimed dupes, so I thought I'd see for myself whether these really do look the same. [caption id="attachment_1400" align="alignnone" width="480"] Top to bottom: NARS Orgasm, NYX Pinched, ELF St. Lucia duo, Milani Luminoso[/caption] NARS Orgasm First, let's look at NARS Orgasm. This blush is sheer, with a coral-pink base and golden shimmer. It's a little difficult to build for me on the cheeks but it's a beautiful color. NYX Blush in Pinched This blush is more pigmented and has a…

Fall Blushes

Fall Blushes

Face, Fall, Product reviews, Seasonal
Hi, everyone! Since you guys seemed to like my fall lips post, I thought I'd do the same thing for blushes and nail colors, too! So look out tomorrow for the nail colors. Let's get to the blushes... The "goes with everything" neutral https://flic.kr/p/qbcvEM I wrote a post about this Milani blush because I love the color, texture, and packaging of it! A mauve blush is great for fall because they're usually not necessarily warm- or cool-toned, so you can reach for it any morning knowing it will look great. I also love this brownish blush, NYX in Cocoa. It gives the cheeks a little color but can look much more toned down than a bright color. A natural pink https://flic.kr/p/qb6bgj Some might argue that there's no room for pink…

Milani "Coming Up Roses" Limited Edition Blush

Milani "Coming Up Roses" Limited Edition Blush

Face, Product reviews
Hi all, I wanted to make sure I show you this blush while it's still available! These limited edition blushes sold out on Milani's website just after these came out, but I was able to find one at my local Walgreens. There are four shades, and I got the one I really wanted, Romantic Rose. https://flic.kr/p/pvDKjh https://flic.kr/p/qqn1n1 You all know from my most recent favorites post that I love Milani's baked blush in Luminoso, so I was really curious to try this out and see if it's just as amazing. Packaging: This blush comes in a thick plastic compact that clicks shut. It feels very sturdy for a drugstore brand. I love that it's clear on top to show off the beautiful rose design, too! Texture and Color: This blush is super…
