Somehow I lucked out with a sample of the soon-to-be launched Benefit Roller Lash Mascara! I was at Sephora on my birthday (yes, ON my birthday…where else would I spend it?) and was given the sample as I was checking out. The woman who gave it to me said it was because I’m VIB Rouge, but I think non-Rouge members could still be able to get a sample if you find the right person and ask very nicely!
Anyway, my first question when I got the sample was, “How does it compare to They’re Real?” I talk about that in the video below… and show you the mascara in action.
But first, here’s what’s on the box:
- “Super-curling & lifting mascara”
- “Hook ‘n’ Roll brush patent-pending hook design & position catches, lifts & curls”
- 97% said it visibly lifts lashes, 87% said it gives long-lasting curl, 94% said eyes look more wide open
You’ll notice a theme: curling. And that’s the one thing I desperately need because my lashes are so straight that they sometimes even aim straight down into my eyeball. I know it might be hard to see in the video, but even after using the eyelash curler, my lashes aren’t super curled.
So, this mascara claims to curl lashes… how did it do for me? If you watched the whole video, you saw that I have some mixed feelings. I do like this mascara–it feels lightweight (once it dries) on my lashes, it doesn’t irritate my eyes, the wand is nice and small. But it just doesn’t curl my lashes or even hold the curl I got from my lash curler.
This could be a couple things. I could be using this mascara incorrectly, and need to work on using thinner coats and encouraging the curl more. My lashes could also just be too straight–I might be in that 13% of people who don’t get “long-lasting curl” with this product.
Whatever the curling issue is with me, I’m not knocking this mascara for that, even though that’s its main claim. I still think this makes my lashes super black, volumized, and lengthened. Plus, it lasts all day. I just might need to pair this mascara with something that will help lift my lashes a little bit more, for my individual needs, you know? It doesn’t mean I don’t still highly recommend this mascara! I love the They’re Real mascara, and this is definitely another awesome product from Benefit.
This mascara will launch on Friday, February 27, and will retail for $24 (same price as They’re Real).
