I got to try out a weird product: Maybelline Great Lash Royal Blue Mascara. I know colorful mascara isn’t new, and it might not be all that weird to some people, but it was definitely a more out-there, trendy thing for me to use.
I was sent this mascara (along with an eyeliner) by Influenster. I’ve talked about them many times before, but they sometimes send me “voxboxes” with complimentary products for review. I’m not compensated for these reviews, and all opinions are my own. If you’re interested in signing up, feel free to use my referral link. Note: this isn’t an affiliate link, and I’m not paid when you click it. If you use it to create an account, I get points on my “impact score” that may increase my chances of getting more voxboxes with products to review for you.
Now that we’ve gotten the housekeeping out of the way, let’s check out this mascara!
This mascara comes in the traditional Maybelline Great Lash packaging. The only difference is the mascara is blue.
You might be able to see in the image that this mascara is a bright blue. I’ve seen photos of women wearing this mascara, and their lashes are just as blue as the product in the tube.
I tried this mascara a few times, and even wore it to work to see if anyone would comment on it. This might sound bold, but, well… I’ll let you see for yourself.
Do you see it? I don’t think it photographed well, but there’s a tiny tinge of blue near the tips of my lashes. (Oh, and enjoy the photo bomb by my squinting chihuahua!) This isn’t the bright pop of color I was expecting, and I tried using thick coats and layering it.
I have naturally dark lashes (dark brown with lighter ends), so in order to get a huge color payoff, I’d probably have to use a white lash primer. But I honestly don’t mind the subtlety. I noticed that even if the mascara isn’t that noticeable, the slight blue tinge on the ends was a great compliment to certain eyeshadow looks. It’s also cool that my lashes look normal until I turn my head or catch the light, and you see a little bit of blue.
That being said, no one at work noticed my blue mascara. I bet this would look really cool on someone with lighter lashes than mine. Or on me if I got some lash primer, which to be blunt, doesn’t seem all that worth it to me.
As for how the mascara wears, I didn’t have any issues with it fading, smearing, or crumbling. It’s a good mascara regardless of the color payoff for my lash color. If you have lighter lashes, or patience with a lash primer, then this mascara could be really fun!
Have you tried colorful mascara? What do you think?
