Project Pan: 1 Month Update

Project Pan: 1 Month Update

Lifestyle, Organization, Videos
It's been a month since I started this project pan, so I thought it was about time to check in and see if there's any visible progress. In my video, I reflect on some of the positive and negative aspects of this project so far, and I compare the product photos live. https://youtu.be/w3T7LB0dqr8 In case it was hard to see in the video, here are the photos side-by-side. IT Cosmetics Foundation Milani Blushes Too Faced Bronzer NYX Eyeliner Bobbi Brown Eyeliner Naked Palette There's been a little progress! It's so satisfying to look at the photos and see tiny differences I would never have noticed had I not gotten the evidence. If you do a project pan, whether you have a blog or not, I highly recommend taking photos so…

My First Project Pan!

My First Project Pan!

Lifestyle, Organization
Hi! I'm so excited to share my first project pan with you. Back in the early days of Broke for Beauty, I used to do a series called "the makeup basket," or something to that effect (see the first one here). I filled a basket each month with products that weren't getting a lot of love and made sure to use them as often as possible. Then, at the end of the month, I'd do mini-reviews of the products. This is similar. If you haven't heard of project pan before, it's a commitment to hitting pan or finishing a handful of products. I've shopped my stash for some of my most-loved products that somehow have seemed to stick around in my collection for too long. I've also set an end…

2017 Recap and 2018 Goals

2017 Recap and 2018 Goals

Lifestyle, Musings, Organization, Wellness
2017 was a year of personal growth and focusing on my long-term goals. I'm so excited to be starting 2018 where I'm at right now... More on that in a minute. Back to 2017. When I started writing this post last week, I thought I'd have even more to talk about than last year because I'd experienced so much more growth. Until I pulled up last year's recap for reference. I saw that I had achieved much more clear milestones in 2016, which was discouraging. I know that my personal growth is just as important as experiences, but it was difficult to remember that. Now, I'm excited to share my 2017 highlights with you. I started strength training Cringey gym selfie in 3, 2, 1... At the end of January,…

Pare Down: November Update

Lifestyle, Organization
I’m late!! This update is coming at an awful time with my work schedule, so I apologize for being so late getting this up. I’ve done so well with these all year, and of course the last update before my 2017 recap is the one I miss… Anyway, if you haven’t been following along, my goal for 2017 is to pare down my space, time, and mind. This means that I’m letting go of what’s cluttering my life to make room for what makes me happy. I make a post at the end of each month to reflect on how I’ve stepped toward and away from that goal. If you’d like to read more about this goal and read past monthly posts, start here. November was a good month overall.…

If you haven’t been following along, my goal for 2017 is to pare down my space, time, and mind. This means that I’m letting go of what’s cluttering my life to make room for what makes me happy. I make a post at the end of each month to reflect on how I’ve stepped toward and away from that goal. If you’d like to read more about this goal and read past monthly posts, start here. The weather is finally cooling down here in San Francisco, and I’m ready to dive into all things Fall! I’m hoping to do some fun vegan recipes on my non-beauty channel in the next few weeks, and maybe a tutorial or seasonal favorites video on my beauty channel. I don’t want to promise too…

Pare Down: September Update

Lifestyle, Organization
If you haven't been following along, my goal for 2017 is to pare down my space, time, and mind. This means that I'm letting go of what's cluttering my life to make room for what makes me happy. I make a post at the end of each month to reflect on how I've stepped toward and away from that goal. If you'd like to read more about this goal and read past monthly posts, start here. We left off last month with things not going so well. I am proud of how I picked myself up, even if I’m still not back to the productivity I had during June and July. There were definitely a couple highlights. My commitment to 10 ideas per day led to some fun creativity This…

Pare Down: August Update

Lifestyle, Organization
Wow, it's September! Apologies for the late post here. I had a strange month with a pretty lengthy depression spell. The middle of the month is sort of a black hole. I lost track of everything and had a hard time convincing myself to care about most things. I was also stressed from some…

Pare Down: July Update

Lifestyle, Organization
It's so cliche to start each post with surprise at how quickly the month went by. I try to avoid it every month. And yet... I am continually caught off guard when I sit down to write another pare down update. I think this month was the quickest by far. I have some upcoming deadlines at work, and I've been in and out of my routine so much that the weeks keep speeding by. July was a great month. It started with a promotion at work and ended with my niece on her way into the world (she was born today!). The weather in San Francisco is the worst in July, but we've managed to find some sunny weekend afternoons to share with our sunshine-loving chihuahua. Before I thought about…

Pare Down: June Update

Pare Down: June Update

Lifestyle, Organization
June has sped on by, and now we're officially over halfway through the year. I had a pretty good month! The trend of having a social life has continued The thing I'm most surprised about since beginning to consider where my time is going is how much I've been branching out socially. I've been going out with friends and coworkers after work about once a week, and having lunch with people more often (although I still like to eat at my desk a lot). I got a nail polish rack and cleared a drawer in my makeup space My nail polish was piled in a bin in a drawer in my makeup drawers. Now, I can see everything I have. Plus, I got rid of more nail polish so everything would…

Pare Down: May Update

Lifestyle, Organization
This month was rough for me, and my paring down goals fell behind a bunch of other priorities. But, near the end of the month I was able to get a bunch of stuff done! After posting my empties and purge videos, I was able to toss that trash and start a new bag for empties and purge makeup. Surprisingly, I already have quite a few items in it even though I just went through and got rid of so many products! So, here are the highlights: I reorganized my paper I mentioned last month that my paper organization had already been torn apart (thanks, taxes). I took everything out again and reorganized. I improved my clothing organization Everyone has that pile of clothes that they wore once or twice…

Pare Down: April Update

Empties and purges, Eyes, Face, Lifestyle, Lips, Organization, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
Another month already? Man, this month was rough. My routine was thrown off a lot and I had some intense work deadlines, so tidying was straight-up not a priority for me. I can't help but think I could have tried harder or pushed through, but I needed that time to focus on my work and my family and friends, and I'm much happier for it in the end. This is a fantastic lesson in expressing understanding towards myself -- it's something I offer freely to others but don't extend to myself. I got on and off track with my daily tidying goal and my strength training. I managed to cook about three meals per week. I packed lunches fairly regularly instead of buying (a luxury in downtown SF). I got all the…

Pare Down: March Update

Lifestyle, Organization
I'm a few days late on this update -- sorry, friends! I'm handling some work deadlines at the moment and totally didn't realize it was April already. I ended my February update with some goals for March: Get into the habit of writing every day Declutter books and other items Finish my makeup purge Post a video and blog post once per week Keep cutting back on TV and YouTube watching Keep developing skills like sewing and painting I did better than expected on some of these goals, but slipped a bit on some others. Full transparency! Let's start with what's going well. I did some (non-work) writing 28/31 days, and read basically every night I was nervous to commit to both a new 30-day challenge of writing every day and…
