Pare Down: April Update

Empties and purges, Eyes, Face, Lifestyle, Lips, Organization, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
Another month already? Man, this month was rough. My routine was thrown off a lot and I had some intense work deadlines, so tidying was straight-up not a priority for me. I can't help but think I could have tried harder or pushed through, but I needed that time to focus on my work and my family and friends, and I'm much happier for it in the end. This is a fantastic lesson in expressing understanding towards myself -- it's something I offer freely to others but don't extend to myself. I got on and off track with my daily tidying goal and my strength training. I managed to cook about three meals per week. I packed lunches fairly regularly instead of buying (a luxury in downtown SF). I got all the…

Pare Down: March Update

Lifestyle, Organization
I'm a few days late on this update -- sorry, friends! I'm handling some work deadlines at the moment and totally didn't realize it was April already. I ended my February update with some goals for March: Get into the habit of writing every day Declutter books and other items Finish my makeup purge Post a video and blog post once per week Keep cutting back on TV and YouTube watching Keep developing skills like sewing and painting I did better than expected on some of these goals, but slipped a bit on some others. Full transparency! Let's start with what's going well. I did some (non-work) writing 28/31 days, and read basically every night I was nervous to commit to both a new 30-day challenge of writing every day and…

Pare Down: February Update

Lifestyle, Organization
If you read my blog regularly, you know that this year I want to pare down, and my first month was a big success. I like doing monthly updates to help keep me accountable, and to help any of you who might be trying to declutter your lives too. In the last post, I ended with some goals to start tackling in February: Declutter the kitchen Declutter books, papers, and other random stuff Finish my makeup purge – I’ve got two boxes of makeup that’s either expired or I don’t wear, so I want to figure out what kind of blog post or video I want to do with it, and get rid of it! Keep cutting back on TV and YouTube time Schedule filming and blog drafting time like I…

Pare Down: January Update

Lifestyle, Organization
Wow, January has really flown by. It's been a whirlwind of coming home after the holidays, hitting the ground running back at work, and trying to put my new year's plans into action day by day. I wanted to do a quick check-in with how my first month of paring down has gone. You might remember that my focus for 2017 is to pare down on what I don't love or need to make room for the things that really matter. So... how did my month go? I did a huge declutter for my closet I regularly take everything out of my closet and dresser, sort through my clothes, and put everything back. I do this every 3 months or so, and I usually get rid of 2-5 items. This time,…

2017: Pare Down

2017: Pare Down

Lifestyle, Musings, Organization
Happy new year, everyone! I've been really missing blogging and making videos. I got lost in some work deadlines and hopped straight onto a plane for the holidays. I'll be back at home tomorrow night, and I'm aiming to pick up right where I left off. But before I get back into beauty, I wanted to take a moment and talk about the new year. I'm planning on making a video on my non-beauty channel about this, but while 2016 was a total sh*tshow, I really invested in my personal growth, and it paid off. I got a dog, [gallery type="rectangular" ids="5952,5951,5948,5949,5950"] I traveled (including a 30-hour trip from San Francisco to New York City and back to see the original cast of Hamilton), [gallery type="rectangular" ids="5946,5947,5958,5959,5956,5957"] I went vegan, [gallery…

DIY Eyelash Holder

DIYs, Lifestyle, Videos
Hi all, I realized that I posted this DIY video and didn't share it on my blog! Whoops! I was getting frustrated with the amount of clutter my false lashes were contributing to my makeup table--and I don't even wear my false lashes that often! It was crazy. So, I started looking online for a case to put them in, but they were all really small and only held 2-4 pairs. Basically, I was looking for something that would hold all my lashes together, but still let me easily grab a pair or two to pack into a makeup bag if I was going out or traveling. I was surprised to find literally NOTHING like that. I don't know why, considering those are some complicated expectations, but stay with me…

How to: Depot Makeup

How to: Depot Makeup

DIYs, Lifestyle, Tutorials and Tips, Videos
So many people have "declutter" on their list of new years resolutions. Depotting is a great way to declutter your makeup collection by removing pans of makeup from their individual compacts and placing them into a single palette. I went on a bit of a depotting craze over break, and I've finally put all of the footage together! The video has some instruction, but I wanted to put more detailed instructions and my tips in a blog post in case you want it. http://youtu.be/AmEG-j8C-bM That video definitely doesn't hide just how many products I depotted. I didn't even show the second palette with the blushes! As I was packing to go home back in December, I noticed just how many individual compacts I had, and how little I really used…

Healthy Green Smoothies Part 2

Healthy Green Smoothies Part 2

Lifestyle, Wellness
Hi guys, This is a part two for my post about green smoothies for beginners, so you might want to swing by that first post before reading this one! Now that you've got the basics down for how to piece together yummy and nutritious smoothies, it's time to have some fun with it. Here are some quick ways to get the most out of your smoothies: Make your own "juice" with infused water. I have an infuser water bottle, and sometimes I'll add some fruit to it, let it soak for a few hours, and use that water in place of store bought juice. Try out fruits and flavors you normally wouldn't. My two favorite surprises were Trader Joe's orange-carrot juice and Whole Foods 100% black cherry juice. Both were a…

Healthy Green Smoothies for Beginners

Healthy Green Smoothies for Beginners

Lifestyle, Wellness
I've been enjoying healthy green smoothies almost every day for the past few months. They make a really great and filling to-go breakfast, and they've been saving me from withering away on those days when I have 4.5 hours of class back-to-back. I think my favorite part, though, is that you can toss in a bunch of "good for you but doesn't taste good" stuff, and it still tastes amazing! I wanted to make this "beginner's guide" of sorts to pass along some of my tips for making these healthy, yummy smoothies. Anyone can do it! Once you have the ingredients, these are very easy and quick to make. Of course, if you have any health conditions, allergies, or dietary restrictions, ask your doctor for advice before jumping in. If you want…

Lifestyle
Hi everyone! Spring and summer always get me in the mood to work out -- maybe it's the sunny weather, or the fact that I can actually enjoy time outside without wanting to go home and curl up under a blanket. Whatever the reason, this is about the time of year I get inspired and actually excited about strengthening my body. But, I've found that this fades. Over a year ago I started a workout plan that carried on through to the summer, but when my schedule changed so drastically I couldn't figure out how to rekindle that excitement, and when I got back to school in the fall I was trying to adapt back to my life there (and maybe a little more excited to see my friends than…

DIY: "Where We’ve Been" Collage

DIY: "Where We’ve Been" Collage

DIYs, Lifestyle
Hi everyone, I realize I haven't gone near my "DIY, Packing, and Storage" category in a loooong time, so I thought I'd share this cute DIY idea with you. I made this "where we've been" collage for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day, but it would make a great gift or decoration for anyone! All you need for this is: A collage frame, or a few small frames if you want a more freeform display Maps, either from a store or online to print yourself Scissors and/or an X-acto knife Tape Get your frame first I found this Threshold Wooden collage frame from Target. I wanted one that had different sizes so I could feature special places like our home cities, and I wanted one with more slots than places we've been,…

Packing Tips & What I’m Packing

Packing Tips & What I’m Packing

Lifestyle, Organization
Hi, everyone! I'm heading down to Burbank next week to visit my boyfriend, who's been working down there for the summer. I'm super excited to spend some time with him and enjoy the hot weather! I fly across the country often for school, so I've gotten pretty good at packing a lot of stuff into little spaces. However, when I go home I typically bring way too much with the intention of leaving some behind, so on short trips like this I have a terrible habit of bringing too much under the excuse of "having options." Over time, I've started pushing myself to pack lighter, and now I have a few tips that I hope can help some of you out! Packing tips: Know what you'll be doing during your…
