Life Update: Starting my LLC

Musings, Videos
Life's been tough but exciting lately. Instead of a regular video, I decided to sit down sans makeup this week and talk about everything that's been going on in my life. I'm working on being nicer to myself and being fully present to experience this fun time in my life, even though it's very stressful and full of paperwork. Video: Exciting and Hectic Life Update! https://youtu.be/aJQJMpECJ0k Until next time,

My Updated Skincare Routine (With Actives)

OK, no more safety talk. I hope that if you choose to experiment in skincare, you’ll do your own research and find what seems realistic for your skin and lifestyle. I’ve found that there’s a lot of experimentation involved, sometimes at the expense of your wallet. Here’s an overview of my routine now. https://youtu.be/J2h36yQgKLQ Monday/Wednesday/Friday Morning: Rinse with water and pat dry Vitamin C serum (Optional) Hydrating serum Moisturizer SPF Night: Oil cleanser and/or makeup wipe Mild face cleanser Retinol - wait 30-40 minutes Hydrating serum Moisturizer Eye cream (Optional) Spot treatment Tuesday/Thursday Morning: Rinse with water and pat dry BHA - at least wait for it to dry, but aim for a 15-25 minute wait Hydrating serum Moisturizer SPF Night: Oil cleanser and/or makeup wipe Mild face cleanser AHA…

Trying Gel Nail Polish

First impressions, Nails, Product reviews, Videos
I fell into another Internet rabbit hole. This time it was nail videos, leading me to want to try using gel nail polish at home. I tend to paint my nails about every other week, but sometimes it takes longer to make myself want to (literally) watch paint dry. I also tend to chip my nails after only a couple days, so it doesn't always seem worth the time it takes to paint them. But, I do like when my nails are grown out a bit, and it's much too dangerous to navigate the world with long bare nails. So, gel nails intrigued me. You can get much more wear time when you apply it correctly, and it's much less likely to chip. And if you take good care of…

Trying New Clarisonic Brush Heads

First impressions, Product reviews, Skin, Tools, Videos
Happy Sunday! I found this footage on my computer and realized I never finished editing and posting this video. I filmed a first impression of the newest Clarisonic brush heads: the Uplift Firming Massage Head and the Sonic Foundation Brush Head, Uplift Firming Massage Head This massage head is meant to massage your face, neck, and chest. I've seen some reviews mention using this to apply serums. It's $54 alone or now comes with the Clarisonic Smart Profile (which may have been renamed??). It can only be used with the Smart Profile model. My first impression: It simply vibrates. I thought it would rotate or something, but it doesn't. It's difficult to use this on your face except for large areas like the jawline and forehead. It's pretty expensive, especially…

Trying Trends: Magnetic Eyelashes

Trying Trends: Magnetic Eyelashes

Eyes, First impressions, Product reviews, Videos
I have to admit, this was a rash purchase. I saw an Instagram ad for magnetic eye lashes a few weeks ago and immediately bought them. In the month it took for them to arrive, I started seeing reviews of similar products, a lot of them mixed. Still, I was looking forward to trying these because if they worked, my eyelash life would be SO much easier. I'm also not supposed to wear eye makeup for a while after I get laser eye surgery in a couple days, so I thought these would be a great way to look a bit more put-together when I go on a trip to a wedding next week. If you haven't heard of these kind of lashes, they come in two pieces per eye;…

My One-Year Veganniversary and Going Cruelty-Free!

Musings, Videos
I mentioned once on my blog that I went vegan last year. It's my one-year veganniversary (!!!), and I'm starting to look at how I can work not just at what I'm buying, but what I can replace with vegan alternatives. Obviously, my vegan journey started with food. Then, I started reading tags on clothes and shoes and stopped purchasing things made with animal materials. Now, I'm going cruelty-free with my makeup. Skincare won't be far behind, but as you know, I've been researching skincare a lot lately, and so far it seems much harder to find cruelty-free and vegan products (please prove me wrong!). I've been doing my best, but I've found it to be a lot more difficult to find the information I'm looking for. So what does…

Testing Beauty Hacks: Re-Pressing Broken Powders

Testing Beauty Hacks: Re-Pressing Broken Powders

Tutorials and Tips, Videos
I had a lot of fun testing whether or not you can remove the sticky residue from NARS packaging, so tonight I wanted to try another makeup hack: repressing broken powders. Word on the street is that you just have to empty out the pan, crush the powder, mix it with rubbing alcohol to a clay-like consistency, and repress it with a paper towel. Once it dries (usually after a couple days) you can reuse it, good as new. Now, I know that this hack works because I've seen lots of YouTube videos having to do with repotting makeup. The question I'm trying to answer is how viable this solution is. Does it make a decent final product? Do you compromise pigmentation, texture, blendability? I've seen this done successfully, and I've…

First Impressions: Sephora Color Switcher and Makeup Tape

First Impressions: Sephora Color Switcher and Makeup Tape

First impressions, Product reviews, Tools, Videos
Happy Sunday! Today I want to share a first impressions and demo video for two Sephora Collection makeup tools: the Color Switcher by Vera Mona and the Line Up Makeup Tape. These are both fairly inexpensive tools that might be useful to have around. See these tools in action along with my in-depth demo and review: https://youtu.be/_a-Lop_bGQ4 Color Switch I spent the most time in this video on the color switcher, because I really wanted to see if it works. The idea behind this product is to let you wipe off eyeshadow from your brush before switching colors, saving you time and keeping your eyeshadows untainted from one another. For my day-to-day makeup, I tend to use two brushes to get the job done, so I figured if this works,…

Stila Magnificent Metals: Kitten Karma and Into the Blue

Stila Magnificent Metals: Kitten Karma and Into the Blue

Eyes, Product reviews, Videos
I purchased two of the magical Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows. There are two types--regular and duo chrome--and I got one of each so we can see if there are any differences between the two (other than shifting fairy dust, of course). Check out my video for a live review, demos, and swatches: https://youtu.be/aSFxdD0uS6Y About the Products These eye shadows are $24 for .15 oz/4.5 mL, which is definitely on the pricey side. There are no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates, and they're cruelty-free. Kitten Karma - Regular Glitter Shadow There are 11 regular glitter shades ranging from silver, gold, and brown shades to a couple reddish shades and a black. There are currently no cool-toned shades or dark shades other than the black. It would be…

Pare Down: April Update

Empties and purges, Eyes, Face, Lifestyle, Lips, Organization, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Videos
Another month already? Man, this month was rough. My routine was thrown off a lot and I had some intense work deadlines, so tidying was straight-up not a priority for me. I can't help but think I could have tried harder or pushed through, but I needed that time to focus on my work and my family and friends, and I'm much happier for it in the end. This is a fantastic lesson in expressing understanding towards myself -- it's something I offer freely to others but don't extend to myself. I got on and off track with my daily tidying goal and my strength training. I managed to cook about three meals per week. I packed lunches fairly regularly instead of buying (a luxury in downtown SF). I got all the…

Painting My Dog’s Nails (and a Chihuahua Birthday Party)

Painting My Dog’s Nails (and a Chihuahua Birthday Party)

Musings, Tags, Videos
I've been having a blast with my dog Maya lately. She's so sweet and mellow, and she's got a funny little personality. I wanted to give her a beautiful manicure, even though she's a bit of a nervous dog and doesn't like people touching her feet. But I'd say it was a (minor) success! Now up on my beauty channel... https://youtu.be/0kbAqGFZI6I I feel like this should go without saying, but in case any of you are worried about her, we did not harm Maya in making this video. She was a shelter dog and is naturally nervous. Pulling her foot away and trembling are totally normal for her when there's something new going on (and pretty normal for chihuahuas in general, tbh). We agreed before we filmed that if at any…
