Now on my Tumblr…

Uncategorized
Hello! I just wanted to quickly let you all know that my posts and videos will now be shared on my personal Tumblr in addition to all of the other social media I use. I've had this Tumblr for YEARS, so there's a ton of stuff there to peruse through, but until now I've kept it separate from my beauty stuff. But after a long deliberation, and I've decided that I'd like to have that be the place where I reblog a lot of awesome stuff while ALSO putting out my own content (like my videos and posts for this blog as well as any future blogs or YouTube channels I make). Wanna check it out? I reblog a lot of cute animals, as well as some neat feminism/social justice…

Hey guys, I wanted to reach out to you all because I need your help. I also wanted to have a bit of a heart-to-heart with you because there have been a lot of changes to my blog recently, and I haven't checked in for a while. You can probably tell that I was having trouble with time management as I started graduate school last month. It's a constant work in progress, but I really appreciate how supportive you all have been, and how patient you've been with me when I've let a week or two go by without posting. You guys make me want to be better, to keep going when I'm feeling swamped. And that's a pretty amazing thing! You've also probably noticed that I've been focused on…

June Favorites

June Favorites

Videos
Hi, everyone! I'm so excited to share my favorites with you this month! I don't know why, but I've been looking forward to writing this post. I think June just felt long to me. I also have quite a few new products to share with you! IT Cosmetics Bye, Bye Redness This was definitely my favorite of the favorites this month! It's a "redness neutralizing cream" that can act as a foundation or as a base to your foundation. I want to do a review of this product soon, so please let me know in the comments if you'd be interested in that (and if you'd like a demo as well)! L'Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother Oil-Free I've been using this primer underneath my makeup most of the…

You Can be a Feminist and Like Makeup

You Can be a Feminist and Like Makeup

Musings
There's some controversy about girls who love makeup, and this can come from stigmas about vanity and narcissism as much as the simple fact that feminism can be confusing. The word "feminism" means the belief that women are people, and deserve equal opportunity to men. Nothing more, nothing less. That's a pretty overwhelming definition, and people have taken it to mean a number of things. Some second- and third-wave feminists pointed to women happy to be stay-at-home mothers and homemakers as a detriment to feminism, even while promoting equal opportunity. Nowawdays, many feminists look at beauty bloggers and feel the same way, saying those women are trapped in the societal pressures to value their beauty above everything else, have dumbed down to become nothing more than an empty shell of femininity,…

Fall Blushes

Fall Blushes

Face, Fall, Product reviews, Seasonal
Hi, everyone! Since you guys seemed to like my fall lips post, I thought I'd do the same thing for blushes and nail colors, too! So look out tomorrow for the nail colors. Let's get to the blushes... The "goes with everything" neutral https://flic.kr/p/qbcvEM I wrote a post about this Milani blush because I love the color, texture, and packaging of it! A mauve blush is great for fall because they're usually not necessarily warm- or cool-toned, so you can reach for it any morning knowing it will look great. I also love this brownish blush, NYX in Cocoa. It gives the cheeks a little color but can look much more toned down than a bright color. A natural pink https://flic.kr/p/qb6bgj Some might argue that there's no room for pink…

Fall Lipsticks

Fall Lipsticks

Fall, Lips, Product reviews, Seasonal
Hi! As the weather cools down, it seems like everyone's pulling out their "fall lipsticks," but what kinds of shades count as in season, and what if the typical fall shades don't seem to suit you? Well it turns out "fall lipsticks" can cover a lot of ground when it comes to shade selection, so I've chosen what I think are some basic color categories that will look great this season. Deep berry I feel like this color is what comes to mind first for a lot of girls when they think "fall lipstick." This kind of shade can flatter many different skin tones and look great during the cold weather months. My favorite deep berry is MAC's Rebel, but I'll go for the Maybelline Color Whisper in Berry Ready…

Autumn Tag

Autumn Tag

Fall, Seasonal, Tags
Hi everyone, Autumn is taking a while to arrive in Pittsburgh, which is kind of nice compared to last year when it felt like we just went straight to winter. But in between heat waves I've gotten to experience a little bit of fall, so even though I'm typing this post wearing shorts, I'll be looking back to the last couple weeks for my responses! I was tagged to do this post by Tori from Notorious Beauty Blog. You should definitely check out her blog and YouTube channel! She's really sweet and gives such genuine reviews. Also, Tori: You mentioned in your tag that you're in SoCal for school...I'm from the Bay Area, so even though that's pretty far away it made me really happy. Now for the questions: 1)…

Hey all, I had a hard time choosing favorites this month because I've been trying out a lot of new products. But eventually I was able to find a few things I used consistently throughout the month.   Revlon Colorstay Concealer in 03 Light Medium This popped up in my recent haul, where I mentioned that I bought this thinking it would be too dark, so I could mix it with all of the concealers I own that are too light. However, it's just about my exact skin tone, so I've been using this on its own. A really great trick I've found, too, is to use this all over the undereye area and then go over the inner part with a brightening concealer, like Benefit's Erase Paste. Rimmel Scandaleyes…

Broke for Beauty got a makeover!

Musings
Hey all, Now that I've been blogging for a few months and getting to know my blog and writing style, I decided it was time for a complete blogging makeover --- internally and externally. I've been thinking a lot about the content I'm posting and how it relates to what I imagined my blog to be, and where I want it to be going. Through this thinking, I decided a few things: I needed to solidify what this blog is about - I wasn't completely sure about the kinds of content I wanted to post in the beginning, and it showed in how I was categorizing and tagging my posts. I needed to figure out what my blog is about, and what kind of content can be found here. Also, I needed…

Comparison: Neutral Cream Eyeshadows

Comparison: Neutral Cream Eyeshadows

Comparisons, Eyes, Product reviews
Hi, Beauties! I'm almost settled into my room at school, and I'm super excited for classes to start tomorrow. Thanks for being patient with me as I transition back into school mode. Your support and kind words have helped make this a very bright start to my senior year! I chose to do a spotlight on neutral cream eyeshadows because they're a staple, and there are so many options. These are absolutely perfect as a base underneath powder shadows (especially during this hot weather) to keep the colors from blending together or creasing. They're also great alone for when you want a long-lasting simple eye look to contrast a bright lip or bold liner. I'll be focusing on the pot kind of cream shadows, but you can get some really…
