Project Pan: THE RESULTS!!

Project Pan: THE RESULTS!!

Empties and purges, Product reviews, Videos
I'm finally back to report my results of the project pan I started back in March. Are you ready to see how it went? https://youtu.be/TnGZM2WeYh0 The Results Not many of these products had a very dramatic change, but I've learned in this process that it's really all about the details. I myself didn't even see some of the changes until I had the images side-by-side in my video editor. IT Cosmetics Celebration Illumination Foundation in Light - I started with quite a bit of pan showing, and now it's pretty significant. I was expecting more progress on this one, but partway through I figured out that this powder breaks me out! Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso - This blush is domed, so it's super hard to see, but I've been…

Mixing My Liquid Lipsticks

Mixing My Liquid Lipsticks

Tags, Videos
Long time no see! I was going through my footage recently and I found something I filmed a couple of months ago. I'm not totally sure how that happened, but every once in a while I find something I started to make and then forgot about. /shrug I've been in a purging mood lately, and I'm working on a series of decluttering videos to cover all that. I haven't totally finished my makeup declutter, so you've got some time to prepare for some good ol' organization porn. In this video, I decided to take stock of my liquid lipstick collection while joining the trend of mixing a type of makeup together and wearing it. Yeah, I know, that trend is super old now, but I was excited to do it…

Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette

Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette

Eyes, Face, Lips, Palettes and sets, Product reviews
Today I’m going to finally share my thoughts about the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic palette. I’ve had this palette around for a long time and realized I never posted a review! The details $32 from Sephora’s website Cruelty-free and vegan 4 x 0.05 oz/ 1.53 g Holographic Shades in Emerald (green), Saphyre (blue), Amethyst (ultra-violet), Opal (pink) Packaging This palette has some of the coolest packaging of any palette in my collection. It’s a white and iridescent triangle with an embossed A design. It’s cardboard but feels reinforced because of the plastic coating. It has a magnetic closure that really stays shut. Inside, it has a mirror and a smooth matte covering around the pans. It feels similar to something like NARS or ELF packaging but doesn’t pick up…

Kevyn Aucoin Electropop Pro Eyeshadow Palette

Kevyn Aucoin Electropop Pro Eyeshadow Palette

Eyes, Palettes and sets, Product reviews
The Electropop palette from Kevyn Aucoin caught my eye when I was shopping at Sephora last month. The color selection is just gorgeous. I’ve been using it a lot lately, so let’s dive in. The Details Retails for $57 at Sephora 12 pans at 1.5g/0.05 oz each Cruelty-free but not vegan (carmine is an ingredient) Limited edition, apparently… It was released for holiday 2017 but is still around There are two product claims I could find for this palette, both on the box the palette came in (the same descriptions are on Sephora's site with slight variations). First, about the palette: Dramat-eyes like a pro to create endless 3D chromatic eye looks and editorial effects - from a light, sheer shimmer to a high, metallic opaque finish. These electro chrome…

My First Project Pan!

My First Project Pan!

Lifestyle, Organization
Hi! I'm so excited to share my first project pan with you. Back in the early days of Broke for Beauty, I used to do a series called "the makeup basket," or something to that effect (see the first one here). I filled a basket each month with products that weren't getting a lot of love and made sure to use them as often as possible. Then, at the end of the month, I'd do mini-reviews of the products. This is similar. If you haven't heard of project pan before, it's a commitment to hitting pan or finishing a handful of products. I've shopped my stash for some of my most-loved products that somehow have seemed to stick around in my collection for too long. I've also set an end…

Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Palette

Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Palette

Eyes, Fall, Palettes and sets, Product reviews, Seasonal, Summer
I'm finally coming at you with another review, this time for the Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions palette. There are four different Obsessions palettes, but this one stood out to me because it has a great variety of colors and is closest to what I normally like to wear. The Details Retails for $27 at Sephora and Huda Beauty's website 9 x 1.3g (0.05 oz) eyeshadows Cruelty-free (and after some digging, I found that the company responded to someone's comment on their website about the Obsession palettes being vegan, but take that as you wish) Here's what Huda Beauty says about this line of mini palettes: A range of compact eyeshadow palettes, expertly curated by Huda herself, offering beauty lovers a complete day-to-night eye color wardrobe. Each Huda Beauty Obsessions…

2017 Favorites (Cruelty-Free)

2017 Favorites (Cruelty-Free)

Favorites, Product reviews
What a year. I’m going to post my 2017 reflection and 2018 goals separately, but I’ll say right now that this year has been both challenging and rewarding in so many ways. I’m also happy to be spending my last night of 2017 at home making videos and writing instead of out partying. Woohoo! This year was an interesting year for me with makeup and skincare. I barely bought any makeup, instead doing one big purge in the middle of the year and another over the next couple days. I learned a lot about skincare and got quite a few products to try, but even then, I didn’t get all that much. This is the first year since I started to wear makeup that I spent so little. I feel…

Colourpop at Sephora: Golden State of Mind and Polite AF Sets

Eyes, Palettes and sets, Product reviews
Hi, friends! I got my hands on a couple of the Colourpop products that launched at Sephora back in November, and I’m so excited to finally share my thoughts with you. I’ve wanted to try some of their products for a long time, and it’s so much more convenient to do so now that they’re at Sephora! All of their products are cruelty-free and reasonably priced. Let’s dive in! Golden State of Mind Palette This palette caught my eye because it’s full of gorgeous shimmers and glitters. I don’t have a lot of very glittery eyeshadows, so I knew this would give me a lot more options in my collection. This palette sells at Sephora for $22, but as of this writing it’s on sale for $18. You may be…

Testing Beauty Hacks: Deep Cleaning Pores

Testing Beauty Hacks: Deep Cleaning Pores

Tutorials and Tips
Hi! I had a great vacation last weekend and have recovered from LASIK really well. The only downside is that I haven't been able to use skincare in about two weeks. Because I knew I wouldn't be able to use any skincare for a few days to a week after LASIK, I weaned off about two weeks ago. My skincare makes my skin sensitive to light, and I didn't want to get sunburned on vacation without my SPF, so it was best to put it all on hold. Now that I've gotten the green light on skincare from my eye doctor, I wanted to start by getting all the gunk out of my pores. I use chemical exfoliation a couple times per week, so before jumping right back into my old routine,…

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness

Face, Product reviews
Hi! I've been using this product for some time now, but I finally got around to posting a review. I've reviewed a few IT Cosmetics products, but Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Correcting Cream is definitely a very close second to the Celebration Illumination foundation (only because I use the powder foundation much more often). This product is a color-correcting cream that you can wear alone or underneath a regular foundation. I've found this product to be so pigmented that I normally wear it alone. It's thick, creamy, and buildable. However, it can be difficult to blend, especially if you accidentally use too much. This pot is very small, so the sticker shock is high when you see what you're getting. Take a look at the size of this pot compared…

Blue Mascara: Does it Work?

Blue Mascara: Does it Work?

Eyes, Product reviews
I got to try out a weird product: Maybelline Great Lash Royal Blue Mascara. I know colorful mascara isn't new, and it might not be all that weird to some people, but it was definitely a more out-there, trendy thing for me to use. I was sent this mascara (along with an eyeliner) by Influenster. I've talked about them many times before, but they sometimes send me "voxboxes" with complimentary products for review. I'm not compensated for these reviews, and all opinions are my own.
